Buffalo, N.Y. Office
The international merger between separate accounting firms to form Deloitte & Touche created a need for a new location and corporate image. The decision to occupy the 15,000 square foot of office space at the downtown Buffalo site provided the new corporate entity with the opportunity to enhance its position as one of the most prominent firms in the area.
Located on the mezzanine level, this interior build-out required careful planning to maintain a compressed timeframe. The space consists of executive and management offices, conferencing spaces, employee lounge, library, and computer facilities.
The concept of the interior design was influenced by the prism shape of the building’s towers. This shape is suggested in the wallcoverings, fabrics, and light fixtures. Using the same element, members of the design team contrived the designs for the custom conference tables and reception desk, beveled door frames, and prism ornaments on the columns. The colors and finishes were selected as a traditional yet progressive representation of the client.
Fire-rated glass block was utilized in the design to provide visual access at the entrance, while conforming to building code requirements. Glass block was repeated at the Board Room facade to allow natural light to filter and highlight the exterior view of the grand plaza.
Light plays an important part in the rest of the space as well. Closed offices are situated along the perimeter so that they may contain exterior windows, while open workstations allow natural light to penetrate in at several intervals within the corridor.
We also specified and monitored the installation of all interior furnishings including free-standing furniture, furniture systems and the custom designed and built reception station.
